1Let us now praise famous men, 2The Lord manifested Gr. created. in them great glory, Even his mighty power from the beginning. 3Such as did bear rule in their kingdoms, Giving counsel by their understanding, Most authorities read They shall take counsel. 4Leaders of the people by their counsels, The Greek text is here corrupt. men of learning for the people; were their words in their instruction: 5Such as sought out musical tunes, 6Rich men furnished with ability, 7All these were honored in their generations, 8There be of them, that have left a name behind them, 9And some there be, which have no memorial; 10But these were men of mercy, 11With their seed shall remain continually a good inheritance; are within the covenants. Or, In their testaments 12Their seed stands fast, 13Their seed shall remain forever, 14Their bodies were buried in peace, 15Peoples will declare their wisdom, 16Enoch pleased the Lord, and was translated, Being an example of repentance to all generations. 17Noah was found perfect and righteous; for the world; 18Everlasting covenants were made with him, 19Abraham was a great father of a multitude of nations; 20Who kept the law of the Most High, 21Therefore he assured him by an oath, 22In Isaac also did he establish likewise, for Abraham his father’s sake, 23And he made it rest upon the head of Jacob;
