The Wisdom of Jesus the Son of Sirach, or Ecclesiasticus 35
1He that keeps the law multiplies offerings; 2He that requites a good turn offers fine flour; 3To depart from wickedness is a thing pleasing to the Lord; 4See that you appear not in the presence of the Lord empty. 5For all these things are to be done because of the commandment. 6The offering of the righteous makes the altar fat; is before the Most High. 7The sacrifice of a righteous man is acceptable; 8Glorify the Lord with a good eye, 9In every gift show a cheerful countenance, 10Give to the Most High according as he has given; give with a good eye. 11For the Lord recompenses, 12Think not to corrupt with gifts; for he will not receive them: 13He will not accept any person against a poor man; 14He will in no wise despise the supplication of the fatherless; when she pours out her tale. Gr. if 15Do not the tears of the widow run down her cheek? 16He that serves God according to his good pleasure shall be accepted, 17The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds; righteously, and execute judgement. Some ancient authorities read for the righteous. 18And the Lord will not be slack, neither will he be longsuffering toward them, 19Till he have rendered to every man according to his doings, to the works of men according to their plans; 20Mercy is seasonable in the time of his afflicting them,
