The Wisdom of Jesus the Son of Sirach, or Ecclesiasticus 24
1Wisdom will praise herself, Gr. her own soul. 2In the congregation of the Most High will she open her mouth, 3I came forth from the mouth of the Most High, 4I lived in high places, 5Alone I compassed the circuit of heaven, 6In the waves of the sea, and in all the earth, 7With all these I sought rest; 8Then the Creator of all things gave me a commandment; 9He created me from the beginning before the world; 10In the holy tabernacle I ministered before him; 11In the beloved city likewise he gave me rest; 12And I took root in a people that was glorified, 13I was exalted like a cedar in Libanus, 14I was exalted like a palm tree on the sea shore, 15As cinnamon and aspalathus, I have given a scent of perfumes; galbanum, and onyx, and stacte, See Exodus 30:34. 16As the terebinth I stretched out my branches; 17As the vine I put forth grace; 18Verse 18 is omitted by the best authorities. 19Come to me, you⌃ that are desirous of me, 20For my memorial is sweeter than honey, 21They that eat me will yet be hungry; 22He that obeys me will not be ashamed; 23All these things are the book of the covenant of the Most High God, Even the law which Moses commanded us for a heritage to the assemblies of Jacob. 24Verse 24 is omitted by the best authorities. 25It is he that makes wisdom abundant, as Pishon, fruits; 26That makes understanding full as Euphrates, 27That makes instruction to shine forth as the light, 28The first man knew her not perfectly; 29For her thoughts are filled from the sea, 30And I came out as a stream from a river, Gr. canal. 31I said, I will water my garden, 32I will yet bring instruction to light as the morning, these things to shine forth afar off. Gr. them. 33I will yet pour out doctrine as prophecy, 34Behold that I have not laboured for myself only,
