1A slothful man is compared to a stone that is defiled; 2A slothful man is compared to the filth of a dunghill: 3A father has shame in having begotten an uninstructed son; foolish daughter is born to his loss. 4A prudent daughter will inherit a husband of her own; 5She that is bold brings shame upon father and husband; 6Unseasonable discourse is as music in mourning; 7He that teaches a fool is as one that glues a potsherd together; Even as one that wakes a sleeper out of a deep sleep. 8He that discourseth to a fool is as one discoursing to a man that slumbereth; 9Verses 9 and 10 are omitted by the best authorities. 11Weep for the dead, for light has failed him; him: 12Seven days are the days of mourning for the dead; 13Talk not much with a foolish man, so you shall not be defiled in his onslaught: Or, defiled: in his onslaught turn so you shall not be wearied in his madness. 14What shall be heavier than lead? 15Sand, and salt, and a mass of iron, is easier to bear, 16Timber girded and bound into a building will not be loosed with shaking: 17A heart settled upon a thoughtful understanding 18Pales set on a high place will not stand against the wind: 19He that pricks the eye will make tears to fall; 20Whoso casts a stone at birds frays them away; 21If you have drawn a sword against a friend, despair not; 22If you have opened your mouth against a friend, fear not; 23Gain trust with your neighbor in his poverty, The remainder of this verse is omitted by the best authorities. 24Before fire is the vapor and smoke of a furnace; 25I will not be ashamed to shelter a friend; 26And if any evil happen to me because of him, 27Who shall set a watch over my mouth,
