The Wisdom of Jesus the Son of Sirach, or Ecclesiasticus 2
1My son, if you come to serve the Lord, 2Set your heart aright, and constantly endure, 3Cleave to him, and depart not, 4Accept whatever is brought upon you, when you passest into humiliation. Gr. in the changes of your humiliation. 5For gold is tried in the fire, 6Put your trust in him, and he will help you: 7You⌃ that fear the Lord, wait for his mercy; 8You⌃ that fear the Lord, put your trust in him; 9You⌃ that fear the Lord, hope for good things, 10Look at the generations of old, and see: 11For the Lord is full of compassion and mercy; 12Woe to fearful hearts, and to faint hands, 13Woe to the faint heart! for it believes not; 14Woe to you that have lost your patience! 15They that fear the Lord will not disobey his words; 16They that fear the Lord will seek his good pleasure; 17They that fear the Lord will prepare their hearts, 18saying,
